There are certain moments that define you; a memory, an event, a place. 5 years ago I stepped into a building and into an environment I knew little about. This building was full of people that were looking to me for direction and I was looking to them to help me understand what conveyancing actually is.
I had never bought a home in England before and had no idea how to buy a home south of the wall. What I did know was what buying a property meant to me. It was a way of making my life easier, it bought me closer to my work and colleagues, but above all, it was personal. Buying a property meant more than just bricks and mortar, but the process of achieving what I wanted was still a mystery to me and I am sure this is the same for the tens of thousands of clients we help every year.
Conveyancing. What does it mean? How does it work? How do we play our part in it? These were all questions I asked myself when I joined My Home Move. What truly brought it to life for me wasn’t the technology, the service or even getting to know more about the process; it was the people. The people moving home, the people helping them do it and the collaboration to make ‘conveyancing’ happen.
Even though I’ve spent half a decade here (and I’d like to think I know a thing or two about what we do now) the word ‘conveyancing’ seems to jar with what I see every day being done in our business. You won’t hear people say ‘I’m doing conveyancing at the minute’, or ‘I dream of going through conveyancing’. They say ‘I’m moving home’, ‘I’ve got a move-in date’, ‘we’re finally going to own our first property’.
Ultimately, we work together not to do ‘conveyancing’, but to make the nation’s dream of homeownership happen. We do this by working together, collaborating with the estate agents, mortgage brokers and house builders we partner with, to help the people that come to us to make their dreams a reality. Together, we redefine conveyancing – and humanise it.
A person is known by the company they keep. The company I chose was My Home Move and its people. Their passion for turning dreams into a reality defined my belief in what we do.
Through this blog, we hope to make you believe that conveyancing is more than just legal-jargon; it’s people coming together, using everything they know to make someone’s dream come true.
