National Volunteer Week: Kirsty Drain, Conveyancing Manager at My Home Move, comments on volunteering at The Hope Centre
June 1, 2017Kirsty Drain, a Conveyancing Manager based at My Home Move’s Northampton office, has helped to raise almost £4,000 for The Hope Centre*, her local MHM Charitable Trust good cause. She was one of 25 volunteers that took on the 26-mile hike across the Malvern Hills as part of the My Home Move annual Charity Trek on Saturday 20th May.
The Hope Centre works to relieve poverty and tackle the causes of homelessness in Northampton “by giving people a hand up not a hand out”.
Commenting on why she gets involved, Kirsty said, “Taking part in these events is so important to me, particularly as I regularly volunteer at The Hope Centre.
“I started to get involved after a family member came into hardship due to alcohol and drug abuse, which can often be a big issue for people who are homeless. Being able to volunteer and raise money for The Hope Centre gives me an opportunity to work with others in the community who may be going through the same thing, and it’s a great feeling to be able to give something back.”
Kirsty has participated in the trek since 2015, taking on Mount Snowdon and the Peak District marathon. She regularly volunteers at The Hope Centre with her Mum and actively seeks out ways to help them with their services and projects.
When asked about the importance of the work done by volunteers from My Home Move, Sue Wright, Fundraiser at The Hope Centre, said, “We are so grateful for the continuing support of the team at My Home Move. As a small local charity, we rely very heavily on donations like these. Many of our clients (we see 120 people each day) are homeless, or have experienced homelessness; all of them are in poverty. The money raised through challenges such as the annual charity trek helps us to provide hot drinks, food, clothing and showers, as well as activities such as our cookery club, and importantly a listening ear for those who are often ignored in the outside world.”
