Many of you will know that I love to travel. I like to think I’ve made a good start on seeing the world’s most beautiful places and experiencing those ‘once in a lifetime’ moments. For me, no place is better for giving you a unique experience than India. I’m lucky to have been many times for work or holidays, each time learning something new – but my previous visits were nothing compared to my latest trip.
I’ve been at My Home Move for almost 2 years now and I regularly talk to and see the work being done by our colleagues at My Home Move India, so when I was offered the opportunity to travel to meet them I was counting down the days.
Every year our India colleagues hold their ‘Annual Excellence Awards and Foundation Day’, where they all come together to highlight their successes over the year, award exceptional performances and celebrate their time in operation. I’d seen photographs of the event and knew I was heading for the party of the year – but I wasn’t prepared for the lessons I would learn when I met my off-shore colleagues.
What struck me the most from the moment I landed was the warmth with which our colleagues treated me. Even though mostly we had never met, they greeted me with open arms, as if we were old friends. I was in a foreign country, yet I felt like I was meeting family. Colleagues gave up their time every day to meet with me, talk with me and show me around – with genuine interest and warmth.
The second thing that stood out to me was the real pride that everyone at My Home Move India has in the work that they do. They absolutely and unquestioningly know that they are the best at what they do; working for a company that is the best at what it does. They focus on their achievements, their successes and the positives above anything else. Yes, mistakes happen, everyone is human, but for the guys in India this isn’t a bad thing – it can only mean we can work on making something better. My fellow blogger Mark S talked the other week about ‘Catching People Doing Things Right’, and our colleagues in My Home Move India are perfect examples of how embedding this into the working culture creates a better environment and leads to success.
My Home Move India is a critical part of our business, not just from an operational perspective, but also in forming the My Home Move Community. Every day our colleagues in India are sending us messages of positivity, celebrating their successes and recognising each other for a ‘job well done’.
Now I’m back in the UK, I’m reinvigorated with the infectious positivity of my India colleagues. It’s very ‘British’ to recognise negatives, but I know that we can see success all around us, every day. We should take pride in the things that we do, even if they take us out of our comfort zone.
I often worry when I comment on Yammer that I use the same phrases – ‘amazing’ and ‘brilliant’, but that is genuinely how I feel about this company and the people in it, both in the UK and India. Two years in and I still get a real feeling of pride when I tell people that I work at My Home Move!
