Thought that headline might grab your attention!
But, I actually think it might just happen this time. Think about it, have we ever gone into a tournament where expectations of seeing the England team go all the way have been so low?
Forget Brazil or Germany! I read a BBC news article last week suggesting Peru and Columbia stand more chance of winning. Every World Cup has a team that confounds the experts and exceeds expectations, and this time I have a feeling that our young, unproven squad could be that team. With current odds of 16-1, surely it’s got to be worth a punt, right?
In fact – I have a win-win proposition for you. It will cost you £20, but you can’t lose, no matter what happens.

Here’s what you need to do:
- Place half the £20 on England to win the World Cup.
- Place the other half on our Charity Trek and sponsor 31 of my amazing colleagues who are giving up their weekend to head up to the Scottish Highlands to scale the summit of Ben Nevis for the MHM Charitable Trust.
- If England does win the World Cup, you’ll make £160, but as an added bonus – you’ll also genuinely help change the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.
- If our national team does let us down again, you’ll still have that feeling of warmth and satisfaction, because you’ve genuinely helped change the lives of people around the world.
Of course, if you think I’m talking total nonsense (and it won’t be the first time) and/or you’re not a football fan, you can always skip stage 1, place your £20 on the Justgiving page and go straight to stage 4.
I also want to wish all of our trekkers the best of luck for the 30th June – we’ve conquered this one before, we can certainly do it again.
